In honor of National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week, Columbus Regional Healthcare System awarded four $1,000 scholarships to HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) students who would like a future in the health care industry. Each student has completed a second level Health Occupation Class at their High School. This year’s recipients were: Ava Sarvis (East Columbus High School), Bradley Strickland (South Columbus High School), Krystle Price (Whiteville High School), and Alice Pridgen (West Columbus High School). “We are extremely excited to be able to offer these scholarships,” commented Terrie Priest, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing at CRHS. “We feel that it’s important for us to promote health careers and support education in the community we serve. Perhaps one of these individuals may decide to come back to Columbus County to work in the health care field.” Columbus Regional Healthcare System has offered these scholarships since 1997. With the support of the CRHS Auxiliary and the CRHS Foundation, the scholarships have grown in size.

Ava Sarvis, daughter of David Sarvis and Brenda Musselwhite, accepted to Cape Fear Community College, with plans to transfer to UNCW to study Sonography. Bradley Strickland, son of Terry and Linda Strickland, accepted to attend UNC-Chapel Hill to pursue a career either in pharmacy. Krystle Price, daughter of Donnie & Ellen Price, accepted to attend Campbell University to study either Pharmacy or Physical Therapy. Alice Pridgen, daughter of Jamie & Lisa Ivey, plans to attend Wake Technical Community College, later transferring to NC State to be a Biological Science Major, eventually going to med school.
