AHFD Completes $75 Million Vidalia, Georgia Hospital On Time, On Budget

Brentwood, Tenn. (January 17, 2011) – American Health Facilities Development (AHFD), a wholly owned subsidiary of Quorum Health Resources (QHR), has successfully completed its engagement with Meadows Regional Medical Center (MRMC) in Vidalia, Georgia: a 64-bed replacement hospital – the first HUD 242 project in the history of the state of Georgia. The new 194,000-square-foot, $75 million facility was completed on time and on budget, and will open to patients on February 4.

According to Meadows Regional Medical Center CEO Alan Kent, the new facility, for which AHFD served as Project Manager, boasts 64 private patient rooms; six surgical suites; and a large ER with 20 treatment rooms and state-of-the-art equipment.

The facility is designed to improve efficiency and, ultimately, improve patient care. Kent explained, “Radiology is beside the ER, the operating rooms are next to labor and delivery, and the lab and other highly accessible patient areas are right inside the front door.” And specialized areas, such as the OR and ER, have been designed for easy and affordable expansion as the needs of the community grow.

“MRMC had very ambitious goals for this project, requiring the concerted efforts of numerous team members to accomplish,” says AHFD Vice President Steve Rutland, who led the project. “Despite tremendous obstacles, including the financial meltdown of 2008, the project team remained focused and helped secure financing to enable MRMC to take full advantage of a favorable construction market.”

“I attribute a significant amount of our success – from planning and financing to building and, now, preparing for the grand opening – to AHFD,” noted Kent. “I don’t think we would be where we are today without their leadership and strong commitment to the project. I would recommend AHFD to anyone considering a new construction project. Our project team, including AHFD, B&G, Earl Swensson and my hospital team, stands head and shoulders above the rest.”
