QHR Management Client Hancock Medical Center Named Mississippi Hospital of the Year
Mississippi Nurses Association Honors HMC for Making Quality of Care “No. 1 Priority
Brentwood, Tenn. (March 26, 2009) – Hancock Medical Center in Bay Saint Louis, Miss., was named Mississippi Hospital of the Year (Less Than 100 Beds) at the Mississippi Nurses Association’s 2009 Nightingale Awards on March 2. The hospital, a QHR management client since 1980, was honored for its unwavering spirit and ongoing commitment to providing quality healthcare, despite having been dealt a terrible blow by Hurricane Katrina just a few short years ago.
“This award recognizes a hospital employer that demonstrates recognition of professional nursing and innovation in leadership. For hospitals of 100 beds or less, their stature is not in their size, but in the service that they provide their patients and the support they show their nurses,” said Tonya Moore, Mississippi Nurses Association’s District 13’s President, as she presented the award.
“Before Hurricane Katrina, Hancock Medical Center was a thriving facility employing more than 500 employees and providing more than 100 beds. The hurricane’s force caused more than $30 million in damages at the hospital alone. Today, with 47 beds, the hospital continues to climb the rungs of recovery. However, the one thing that Katrina and all of her fury did not destroy and that is honored tonight is the spirit and commitment of the health care professionals who have made quality of care the No. 1 priority.”
“We couldn’t be more proud of all that Hancock Medical Center CEO Hal Leftwich and his team have accomplished – and continue to accomplish,” said QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar. “Their ability to move onward and upward, despite having been faced with tremendous challenges, serves as an
example for us all.”
