The Leadership Assessment Survey Tool is a 26-item, ranked, gap-analysis survey that measures the perceived importance of and manager competence in 26 critical leadership skills. 360°survey data is collected from senior leaders, middle-managers, and staff. The survey results highlight the gap between the importance of a particular leadership skill for the role of the manager and the actual ability of the hospital’s managers. The managers are assessed as a group to avoid the resistance commonly experienced in the delivery and analysis of individual 360° surveys. The survey can be administered in print or on-line versions. The QHR Learning Institute manages the survey process from delivery to data input and analysis.
Needs Assessment Interviews are conducted one-on-one by video conference or on-site at the hospital with every mid-manager involved in the program. Each 15-minute interview probes to identify areas of need not explored in the Leadership Assessment Survey Tool. Areas of need identified through the interviews often pertain to management skills (e.g. budgets and finance) and situations unique to the hospital (e.g. new initiatives or programs). The QHR Learning Institute provides the video conferencing equipment, software, and installation support for the interviews. Gathering this data and meeting each of the managers gives the facilitator insights into the existing culture of the organization and gives QHR an advantage over generic leadership programs that walk into the classroom “blind.”
