Critical Access Hospitals
QHR works with over 80 Critical Access Hospital (CAH) clients every day. The Health Finance &
Reimbursement group has helped many of these clients make the decision to apply for CAH status,
then follow up with specialized reimbursement support to help CAH hospitals survive and thrive.
These services are described below:
CAH STUDIES AND IMPLEMENTATION ASSISTANCE
QHR has helped more hospitals successfully obtain CAH designation than any other firm. We also address
start-up issues and improve cost-based reimbursement. Issues covered in this engagement are based on client
needs for support.
CONTRACTUAL ACCOUNTING REVIEW
Reviews contractual accounting processes, allowances, adjustments and cost report settlements as reported on
financial statements. Contractual accounting and cost report settlement models (which can be used as decision support
tools) are developed for hospital accounting staff. This review helps hospital executives accurately present financial
statements to the Board.
COST REPORT ANALYSIS
Analyzes cost report accuracy and compliance with current cost reporting instructions and regulations. Our consultants
identify cost reimbursement strategies such as revised cost reporting methodologies and alternative reporting methodologies,
to capture all the reimbursement available to the CAH.
REIMBURSEMENT REVIEW
Reviews previous years’ cost reports, conducts hospital department manager interviews, reviews cost reporting processes,
and identifies alternative reporting methodologies and/or service lines to improve cost-based reimbursement.
REIMBURSEMENT ADVISORY & LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Explains legislative and regulatory changes in reimbursement in terms you can understand, and indicates the impact of these
changes on hospitals. This email resource is distributed on an as needed basis.
